Henry, your stand up and spoken word fucking suck. Sorry man. You also can't hold a candle to Chavo (of Puerto Rican descent!) when it comes to Black Flag singers. Too bad he lost his mind and is now a born again Christian.
Anyway, you will get my props for having the guts to play this muddy, sludgy, Sabbathy, slow as shit noise in front of a bunch of punk kids all while getting cigarettes, spit, and piss thrown at you.
Ginn's guitar playing is as atonal as ever and the 3 song barrage of Nothing Left Inside, Three Nights, and Scream is some of the most intense shit Black Flag ever did.
I never like Rollins as Black Flag's singer. I much preferred Chavo and Keith and Dez. Especially Chavo. He was the shit. Rollins, not for me....
ReplyDeletedez is my favorite
ReplyDeleteRollins de seguro termine en Las Vegas y se convierta en el nuveo Tony Bennet for old punks and frat boys. Bendito... but one's gotta live i guess.
ReplyDeleteI guess it's cool to hate on Hank now (wait, it's always been cool in the "our band could be your life" circle), but the fact is this: Black Flag would be Circle Jerks mk II (ie: one buring as fuck band with one good record in 'em)without him. The best, most fucked up BF material was with the beefcake. Dez? Chavo? haha nigga please! those fuckin' retards. Back when they were hittin' rocks under a bridge Hank was releasing Birthday Party records in the US with his own money.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's easy to hate on Rollins even though he obviously knows his shit.
ReplyDeleteI like the sludgy Black Flag but I still prefer their punk stuff thus I prefer the early singers. Either way, Greg Ginn was Black Flag.
Hank has good taste in music. And I think his heart has been in the right place most of the time. But that doesn't mean I have to like his bellowing and beefcake image. I just prefer snotty vocals with my punk....
ReplyDeleteI wasn't proselytizing, just sharing some thoughts. Don't intend to convince anybody about Rollins' worth, then or now (now admittedly is pretty fuckin dismal). Good point Pesky.
ReplyDeleteGinn's sound and influences were undoubtedly the essential component on BF's sound.
I'll take BF ANYTHING....Henry, Dez, whomever...over what passes for "punk" these days.
ReplyDeleteBeen a BF fan now for almost 30 years. it's all good.
This album is dark as hell.
ReplyDeleteGotta agree with most of these folks...Rollins sounded good on this album (My War) and In My Head, but I can't stand his voice on the older songs. Chavo gets my vote any day of the week, even if he turned into a Bible-thumping sheep.
