Timeless: Arthur Verocai

Timeless: The Composer/Arranger Series is the name of a concert series that was created in homage to the composer/arrangers who have influenced hip-hop in the most literal and profound ways. Timeless was conceived by production house Mochilla in Los Angeles during February and March 2009 and included the performances of over 150 musicians in front of ecstatic sold out crowds. These three historic events were recorded and filmed in exacting detail with Mochilla's unmistakable style.

Arthur Verocai has composed and arranged for such giants as Jorge Ben, Gal Costa and Leny Andrade. But hiphop heads know him for his often sampled (see Ludacriss, MF Doom and Lil Brother) self titled solo album. The album came out at the height of the Brasilian dictatorship and was a commercial failure. His performance of this seminal 1972 record brought the capacity Luckman crowd to a stand still. According to Verocai, "he had never played the record, alive or dead!" His delight at the opportunity to play this music in its complete form can be seen in the DVD. He has subsequently been offered an opportunity to do the concert again in London. Stay tuned. The music for the DVD has been mixed by Verocai himself in Rio de Janeiro. History turned on its head and musical justice served.

Arthur Verocai - Encore

after recording his debut self titled album which took a lot of patience and love, arthur was not pleased with the public reception of his album. he got heavily depressed and decided to call it quits and start making jingles for Brazilian commercials to make ends meet. after 30+ years he decided to make a comeback. he has only 2 albums in his catalog and he does not even have a wikipedia article. still truly unnoticed.

fuck yeah for comebacks.

Arthur Verocai - Arthur Verocai

there is only one word to describe this album: TIMELESS. yes i said it. TIMELESS. a 1972 album that was so ahead of its time that it was never given its moment to shine as one of the greatest albums of the 70s. not until he was rediscovered by music historians and was invited to LA in 2009 to do a concert of the full album. this man made a fusion between contemporary brazilian harmony, strings, electric pianos, acoustic guitars, electronic instruments, male and female singers to create a wide musical palette that is still regarded as one of the biggest achievements of the 20th century. he gave his heart and soul to create and record this album but nobody cared about it at the time of its release, so Arthur got depressed, he quit making symphonic arrangement and started making commercial jingles for tv to make money.

please donwload this album and witness the beauty of music.

Bibio - Ambivalence Avenue

some varied listening styles for headroom psycobonanza.

"A resident of the West Midlands, England,Stephen Wilkinson developed a passion for experimental music during his time at Middlesex University in London, where he studied "sonic arts". He developed his own style of music, drawing from contemporary experimental bands such as Boards of Canada, and incorporating field recordings and found sounds. Electronically modified guitar melodies and droning synthesizer sounds are a recurring theme in his pieces, causing many people to label his music as a hybrid of electronica or intelligent dance music and traditional folk music. His music has recently been licensed for commercial campaigns by L.L. Bean and Toyota."

gimme all the flowers!
