this is the debut release by Montreal based band A Silver Mt. Zion (they have changed names various times and still changing), side project of guitarist Efrim Menuk of Godspeed! You Black Emperor. an instrumental record of epic proportions full of unique soundscapes and long compositions.

  1. This band got better and better over their first few albums, but their debut is still pretty solid. I remember listening to it a lot in college and my girlfriend saying it was the most depressing music in the world. She's probably right, it's a really harrowing listen. And to think it's all about the death of Efrim's pet dog...

  2. Wanda is such a solid song, it's a shame more post-rock isn't like this. Most post-rock bands are born as clones from other, more well-known acts, except the cloning process isn't very refined yet, so we're stuck with horribly deformed post-rock babies with three mouths and five eyes or missing limbs. What a half-assed genre.
