V/A-Discotheque 72-Guinee

The "Discotheque" series were released annually by the Syliphone label, run by the government of Guinea. In the '72 album they focused on mainly Guinea bands on the government payroll, like Pivi et Les Baladins and Bembeya Jazz National. The result is some of the most amazing guitar music recorded in any country. From the sublime (Les Freres Diabate) to the truly mindblowing ("Samba" by Pivi has some of the freakiest guitar mangling on tape), it's truly marvelous. Short but oh so sweet.

Get it
